Welcome to my Studio__________________________________________
I work in this great studio that my husband and I converted from an empty bedroom in our home.
Collage: from the French word coller, meaning to paste or glue. A picture or design created by adhering such basically flat elements as newspaper, wallpaper, printed text and illustrations, photographs, cloth, string, etc., to a flat surface.
I love mixed media and collage, especially using the techniques taught by Jonathan Talbot. His innovative techniques give the artist the ability to create a collage without using traditional gluing methods. This allows for greater mobility of the individual elements and helps the artist rearrange these elements until the final composition declares itself. I juxtapose contemporary with traditional images to create interesting and provocative connections tinged with a touch of irony.
I use images culled from books, magazines, the internet, antique stores, hand-made paper, string, yarn, stones, trash and other found objects. I "glue" them down using a tacking iron which bonds the acrylic paints with the medium. Large objects are attached with specialized glues. The images are finished with a polymer varnish that incorporates a system of ultraviolet filters and light stabilizers
